External Storage Hosting - How to Configure Azure Blob Storage

FilesAnywhere's Flex Storage please follow the steps below to configure your Azure Blob storage and configure to your FilesAnywhere account.

FilesAnywhere - Create a Professional Account

Before you can sync your Azure Blob Storage, you need to either sign up for a new FilesAnywhere account from our website www.filesanywhere.com or have an existing Professional account.

Note: External Storage Hosting is not available for Business Starter plans.

Azure - Create a Storage Account

  • Sign into your Azure portal
  • On your Home screen, in the center panel under Services, click on Storage accounts
  • On the Storage accounts screen, click on Create

Basics Tab

  • Within Project details, select your Subscription and your Resource group.
  • If you don't have a Resource group, click Create new and follow the prompts as needed.
  • Within Instance details, Create a Storage account name & select a Region.
  • Leave Performance & Redundancy settings as the default settings
  • Click Next to proceed to the Advanced tab

Advanced Tab

  • All of the default selections should remain the same for this tab
  • Scroll down to the bottom and click Next to proceed to the Networking tab

Networking Tab

  • All of the default selections should remain the same for this tab
  • Scroll down to the bottom and click Next to proceed to the Data protection tab

Data Protection Tab

  • Leave the defaults under the Recovery settings as the default settings
  • Under Tracking, enable "Enable versioning for blobs"
  • Leave the default setting under Access control, off
  • Click Next to proceed to the Encryption tab

Encryption Tab

  • All of the default selections should remain the same for this tab
  • Click Next to proceed to the Tags tab

Tags Tab

  • Tags are not required, so leave this section blank
  • Click Next to proceed to the Review + Create tab

Review + Create Tab

  • After the validation is complete, review the information
  • Ensure that under Blob service, Versioning is set to Enabled
  • Ensure that under Networking, Allow access from is set to All Networks
  • Click Create to complete the storage setup

Azure - Resource Sharing (CORS) Settings

  • Once your storage is created, click on Dashboard
  • Under All Resources, click on the storage you just created
  • Once you are viewing your storage account, on the left navigation for the storage, search for or click on Resource sharing (CORS) under Settings
  • Click on Resource sharing (CORS)
  • Under Blob service enter the following values without quotation marks
    • Allowed origins set to "*"
    • Allowed methods: select GET, POST, & PUT
    • Allowed headers set to "*"
    • Exposed headers should be left blank
    • Max age should be left at "0"
  • Once these are set, click on Save at the top

Azure - Setup Necessary Container

  • While still in the Storage Account, in the left navigation search for or Containers under Data Storage
  • Click on Containers
  • Once in Containers, click on the Container button at the top
  • Create a new container named cd01
  • Click on Create

Azure - Create Necessary Folders

  • Click on the cd01 container
  • Click on the Upload button at the top
  • Create a  0kb file named EmptyFolderDummy with no file extension for upload.
  • In the upload panel
    • Drag & Drop or Browse for the EmptyFolderDummy file and select it
    • Click on Advanced and then under Upload to folder, enter your Client ID I.E. 6543 as the folder name
    • Note: Your Client Id will be given to you in your welcome email
  • Click on Upload
  • Once the upload is complete, click on the Client ID folder that was created
  • As the first user is always created with a user id 9 , you will need to create a folder under the Client ID with a value of 9
  • Click on the Upload button at the top again
  • In the upload panel
    • Drag & Drop or Browse for the EmptyFolderDummy file and select it again
    • Click on Advanced and then under Upload to folder, enter 9 as the folder name
  • Click on Upload

Submit Information to FilesAnywhere Support

In order to sync up your external storage with your FilesAnywhere account, please fill out this secure eForm, with the following information.

 

FilesAnywhere Client ID & Admin username

These items are found in your Welcome Email

Provider Type (Azure Blob, Azure Datalake, Azure FileShare, AWS)

This was selected when you set up your storage.  The recommended storage type is Azure Blob.

 

Location

  1. On your Dashboard, under All Resources, click on your storage
  2. Under the Overview, look under Essentials to the right for the Location information

Storage Size

This is the size of your Azure Blob storage that you are integrating into FilesAnywhere

URL for cd01

    1. On your Dashboard, under All Resources, click on your storage

    2. On the left, under Data storage, click on Containers
    3. Click on the cd01 container
    4. Under Settings, click on Properties
    5. Once in Properties, on the right under the name will be the URL

Key & Connection String

  1. On your Dashboard, under All Resources, click on your storage
  2. On the left under Security + networking, click on Access keys
  3. On the right, copy both the Key and Connection String
